We are pleased to invite you to the International Secondary School Debate Tournament, which will take place in Zagreb on April 17–18, 2026.

Format:
The tournament will be held in the World Schools Debate (WS) format, following the official rules of the format.

The competition will consist of three preliminary rounds and a final round. During the preliminary rounds, teams will debate two prepared motions and one impromptu motion. The two best-ranked teams will advance to the Grand Final, which will be debated on a prepared motion.

Prepared motion:
This House would legalize euthanasia.

Participation fee:
€12 per participant.

Eligibility:
The tournament is open to secondary school students competing in teams of three to five debaters.

Rules and requirements:

  • All participants must be currently enrolled in secondary school education.
  • The language of the tournament is English.
  • Each team is required to provide one qualified judge (N = 1).
  • The use of electronic devices during debates is not permitted. Any exception must be approved by the Chief Adjudicator.
  • During preparation time for impromptu motions, students must prepare independently, without assistance from mentors or access to the internet.
